Last week, Microsoft closed four game studios to much blowback from the gaming audience at large. This week, Microsoft-owned Activision is announcing the opening of "Elsewhere Entertainment" in Warsaw, Poland. The studio will also have resources based here in the U.S.
The studio is focused on "creating a new narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise" and, in that spirit, has brought on talent from other narrative-driven projects including The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Destiny, Tom Clancy’s The Division, and Far Cry.
The new studio is currently hiring, but whether these positions have anything to do with the recent job postings for a potential PvE game from Blizzard is unknown at the moment.
Of interesting note is that the announcement also points out that this project hopes to "resonate far beyond games." Could we be seeing a movie or show tie-in? Perhaps something on the novelization front?
What do you think they're up to?
