The folks at Embracer Group have decided to split up the company following the conclusion of their layoffs and closures. Now, one will become three.
According to the post on the Embracer site, the company has operated in different groups with their own business strategies and operations since it was founded. What each of them is doing probably won’t change that much. What it will change is how they’re listed as stocks. It also means that the over 9,000 IPs currently owned by Embracer as a whole will be spread out among the various companies according to relevance.
The announcement details what the new groups will be named, although two of the three will be given new names later on. These are Coffee Stain & Friends and Middle-Earth Enterprises & Friends. The group keeping its name is Asmodee Group.
As for what each will be doing, Asmodee will handle tabletop games, Coffee Stain’s focus will be indie to AA games, and Middle-Earth will be focusing on AAA games for PC and console. As you might guess by the temporary name the franchises under their umbrella include The Lord of the Rings. Tomb Raider is another.
The companies will break away at different points with Asmodee being in the next 12 months and Coffee Stain sometime in 2025. When that happens, shares in the two new companies will be distributed to those who already have shares in Embracer Group.
