That's the date Bobby Kotick's leadership over Activision Blizzard comes to an end. In a letter penned by Kotick and released today, Kotick takes a moment to thank the company and look back on 40 years of Activision (32 as CEO and 8 as a fan). Kotick is particularly proud of "bringing talented people together" and says the company is in good hands under Phil Spencer as ABK is now "part of the world's most admired company."
Kotick certainly leaves a lot richer thanks to the acquisition of Microsoft, despite the company paying out multiple settlements under his watch, including the recent $54 million settlement with California.
In a separate email sent to ABK staff by Phil Spencer, which you can read in full on The Verge, Spencer thanks Kotick, reminds employees that for most, their day-to-day work remains unchanged, and reviews a few executive departures coming next year while pointing out that ABK leadership under that will remain largely in place.
Lulu Meservey will depart in January (we'll miss her tweets!) and Thomas Tippl (Vice Chairman), Brian Bulatao (Chief Administrative Officer), Jule Hodges (Chief People Officer), Grant Dixton (Chief Legal Officer), and Armin Zerza (Chief Financial Officer) will depart in March.
Now we get to wait to see what the future holds for Kotick, Activision Blizzard, and the company's games.
