Remember Boundary? If you've forgotten about the shooter, it would be understandable. That's not to say its early access is (was?) doing poorly? In fact, the PvP game taking place in zero gravity actually was doing pretty damn well considering it wasn't free to play. At a price point of $25, the game still managed very good player reviews. Early access, which launched last April was expected to last up to a year. Now, just past that one year mark, the game will shut down.
That's not all that unusual, but what is a bit weird in this instance is that both the publisher, Skystone Games, and the developer, Studio Surgical Scalpels, are blaming each other. Skystone says that the dev team hasn't been able "to deliver the necessary updates and improvements to keep the game thriving. This has led to growing concerns within our community, and we share your frustration."
As a result, they are giving up the publishing of the game at the end of June. In a statement translated by PC Gamer, developer Studio Surgical Scalpels says this isn't the case and that they have had problems getting money the publisher owes them and they had been trying to reclaim the rights to their game. This would allow the developer to possibly re-launch the game later, and maybe even retain account data. Studio Surgical Scalpels also claims that Skystone's decision is "sudden and unreasonable."
Either way, the game will go offline next week. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess at the moment. Sadly, in the meantime, the game is getting blasted with negative Steam reviews.
