Let’s take a closer look at the visual effects on Smite 2.
In a new video, VFX artist Shane talked about the nitty gritty of the MOBA’s graphics. He said the team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries to provide players with a more immersive experience.
Addressing the common issue of confusion in team fights, Smite 2 introduces consistent guidelines for distinguishing allies and enemies through customizable targeters. Players can personalize these targeters with their preferred colors, aiding those who are colorblind and ensuring clarity in chaos.
The game will run on Unreal Engine 5, compared to Unreal Engine 3 like the original. It has GPU particles that allow for the rendering of tens of thousands of sprites and there’s real-time mesh destruction. Shane said these advancements will enhance the visual appeal of Smite 2, making battles feel dynamic and impactful.
Furthermore, the game introduces techniques like utilizing ribbons for weapon trails. Unlike the previous method of creating meshes based on character animations, Smite 2 traces ribbons dynamically from point A to point B — allowing for more fluid and realistic movements. This approach aims to let players feel more connected to their chosen gods by enhancing the sense of power and impact in every action.
