Broadly speaking, there are two types of zombie games. In column A, we have Resident Evil and The Last of Us, highly choreographed, self-serious affairs that prioritize careful item management, rich atmosphere, and scripted scares. And in column B, it’s State of Decay, Dying Light, and, to a lesser extent, Project Zomboid. Here, it’s more about freedom and fun. Rather than caution, you play with style. The gore is plentiful and the undead come in hordes. Originally released all the way back in 1998, the same year that Half-Life gifted us the iconic headcrab monsters, one zombie classic feels like it falls somewhere in the middle, and now it’s getting a huge new remake. Welcome back to The House of the Dead 2.
