MMOBOMB
Oct 05, 2024
New World's PC players have been asking for raiding for quite some time. They'll finally be getting the endgame PvE content they've asked for when Amazon Games releases the New World: Aeternum version of the MMO on October 15th.
Having already defeated Medusa, it's time for your group of 10 to take on the rising Gorgon threat. Amazon says there's a series of "puzzles and epic boss battles" awaiting. While some things may feel familiar for those that have already completed the Sandwurm Trial, the mechanics used in the "Hive of Gorgons" raid are a bit more complex and and the difficulty should be increased.
All challenges should come with rewards that are worth a damn, though. To that end, Aeternum's gear score has been increased to 725 and three new perks will be added, but they'll be exclusive to the Gorgon raid. You will be able to score new crafting materials to make that new score possible if you enjoy making your own gear.
The raid will be broken into "Chapters." Each chapter will contain a section of enemies, a puzzle or an action sequence, then a final boss, and the full blog post reveals concept art for all three areas contained in the raid; a Desert Canyon, Roman Baths, and an Ancient Tomb. Each follows a design philosophy based around the idea of "simplicity over complexity."
It's important to note, though, that while the current endgame gear won't be the strongest gear anymore post raid launch, it won't be any weaker in current content. The new, higher-level gear will be strong in the raid, it won't make existing gear weaker in other content. That's does mean, if I understand correctly, that there could be a chance for current content to be made slightly easier with raid gear acquired.
While internal testing seems to have gone well, the only real change coming in the form of a teleport to the current boss for those that join late, it'll be interesting to see how well the raid is implemented on live servers. Let's be honest, Amazon doesn't have the best reputation for adding content without having to fix a great deal of things afterwards.
