Yesterday, Nexon held a preview of MapleStory’s v.250 Update via livestream to show off future plans. That news is being overshadowed a bit though as the top player in the entire world was supposed to reach max level…but chose not to?
The stream provided a look into the upcoming content, highlighted by the introduction of the new class "Lynn" — a forest-themed character who utilizes spirit guides named Pan and W. There’s also new events and a mini-game featuring jumping quests. Players can expect various item and shop updates, including new cosmetic items and chairs available for purchase with currency earned through event participation. There’s gameplay enhancements as well, such as skill balances.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s talk about Niru.
He made a significant statement by halting his journey just shy of reaching level 300, the game's maximum level. During a livestream with over 20,000 viewers, Niru paused his grinding at 99.993% experience to voice his grievances about various aspects of MapleStory, particularly criticizing the company’s handling of game features like cubing, the dwindling player base in certain game worlds, and progression systems.
He even considered this action as potentially jeopardizing his own career in streaming but believed it was necessary to draw attention to the issues within the game. Although Nexon has not made a statement yet, the company did remove a banner previously advertising Niru’s stream for the occasion. That being said, Nexon’s tweet is still up as of this writing.
The WORLD's FIRST Lv. 300 in #MapleStory is happening today 🤯 Tune in and join us in celebrating Niru's legendary accomplishment! 🏆
