MMOBOMB
Jun 22, 2024
Level Infinite and Tencent have finally made it to launch day. What originally began as a bit of a meme in the MMORPG community now has a chance to set itself apart from the games Tarisland was immediately compared to when it was officially announced.
Tarisland was announced right around the time Blizzard announced it was pulling products, including World of Warcraft, out of China due to a breakdown in negotiations with their Chinese publisher NetEase. Right away, many viewed the game as a way to cash in with a "pretty close to WoW" clone. Tarisland hated those comparisons, no matter how apt they may have been.
Since then we've had a few tests, but large scale access was very limited. That means today is a pretty important day for the MMO, particularly if it wants to break away from those comparisons it seems to hate so much.
The launch is global and, as of this writing, Tarisland should got live very shortly here in North America, like within the hour. Of course, that is barring any technical issue or delay.
To celebrate launch day, the team is hosting a launch show on their Twitch and YouTube channels. The stream has just gone live (10:30 AM EST) and yes, there will be Twitch Drops enabled.
Remember, the launch today may not include all of the dungeons available as the team is opening up content each day starting today. The limitations on things like this seem to be annoying some gamers on X, but at least you don't have to wait long since they are daily unlocks.
Time to see if the P2W concerns, the limitation in customization concerns, and more are valid or if Tarisland can become a nice option for players looking for both the familiar and the new.
