While the NEXON team running The First Descendant has certainly been adding minor updates to improve things since the looter-shooter's launch, today marks the first official "update" for the game. The update adds a number of new content pieces, but the big addition is obviously the new Descendant Luna, and the Ultimate version of Valby.
Luna is all about performance. Focusing on music and art, Luna is a support Descendant that not only keeps allies entertained with tunes, but those tunes also empower abilities and fellow Descendants, allowing for an even more lethal team.
If Luna isn't your new thirst-trap in a sea of them, maybe Valby's Ultimate variant is more to your liking. On the Ultimate front, we also get a new Ultimate weapon, the Peace Maker. This weapon grants the "Single Reload for Peace" effect. Get to maximum stacks and this ability allows you to fire loaded ammo in one quick, aimed burst.
The last major piece of new content is a new hard Void Intercept battle against Gluttony. Of course, a new intercept means new rewards and components are up for grabs.
While the patch notes are full of other changes, including balance updates and fixes, one item of particular note (and one that had to be interpreted a second time due to an issue with the first translation) is a potential "pity" type system.
There's nothing definite on this front quite yet, but Director Minseok Joo did bring up drop rate concerns. He says they are all working as intended, but acknowledges that some players may find things frustrating. Killing a boss a dozen times and not getting the items you're after can certainly make players angry. "To address this, we're planning to introduce a new system where you can more easily get the item you want after repeating the activity a certain number of times," says Joo, "We're considering how we can effectively take care for the drop-rate issue in such diverse reward systems, and we're working to create a farming structure that players will be happy with."
