The League of Legends Worlds Champoinship is just a few weeks away, slated to take place across Berlin, Paris, and London between September 25 and November 2. While similar to last year’s event, Worlds 2024 has undergone a few format changes that viewers of the MOBA esport will want to know about. To explain, LoL Esports dropped a three-minute video running through how things will go this time around.
The tournament will host 20 teams playing across three stages. The first stage, Play-Ins, will run from September 25 to September 29. This will be followed by the Swiss stage, which will run from October 3 to October 13. The third stage, Knockout, will last from October 17 to November 2, with the Grand Final and Opening Ceremony on November 2 as well.
One of the important changes takes place in the Swiss stage, where teams will no longer be placed into rematches against previous opponents. The initial rounds may be best-of-one, but the latter are best-of-three.
The video explains who will be competing in which portion of the tournament to make their way to the Finals.
