A little over two months after Blizzard announced testing for a 6v6 mode in Overwatch 2, the team is moving the mode’s playtest to the Arcade. According to a tweet posted by Arron Keller, the test will continue and there’s enough player interest to do so, but players of the team shooter will have to look in the Arcade to find it. The news is getting mixed responses from players, most of whom seem to be concerned that the mode will just be overlooked in the Arcade, but are happy with the test continuing longer than originally planned.
The initial tweet goes on to say that the mode will be available in the Arcade until midseason. Following that it will transition to an Open Queue format. Groups of anywhere between one and three players will be able to queue for it.
It will be interesting to see if players are correct about the move having a negative impact on the number of people playing it. Perhaps the devs believe that if players like it enough, they’ll make a specific effort to play it via the Arcade. That said, several players are definitely hoping to see it put in Ranked instead.
We're extending the 6v6 playtest due to continued player interest and excitement for the mode🥳
