A little less than two weeks ago, Palworld yolo launched on the PlayStation 5 during Sony's State of Play presentation. The monster gathering game had literally just come off of being served a lawsuit from Nintendo alleging multiple patent infringements in Japan, but hey, let's launch anyway.
At the time of the PS5 launch, players in Japan weren't able to get the game from the PlayStation Store. While speculation pointed to the lawsuit itself as a reason for the delay in the country, Pocketpair was mum on the topic. In fact, the only statement they gave on the Japanese launch was that the team "hadn't decided" on a release date.
As the lawsuit plays out, and Nintendo makes moves to shore up their position for a possible suit in the States, Pocketpair has decided to damn the torpedoes and release Palworld in Japan. Even the tweet from the official Japanese Palworld account uses the word "finally" to announce the launch as if two weeks was just so long ago.
It'll be extremely interesting to see how the legal battle plays out, but in the meantime, Palworld seems to have no inclination to slow down. They're even planning a mobile release with the help of PUBG's Krafton, who secured the global mobile publishing rights this week.
