MMOBOMB
Jul 11, 2024
Card games are a pretty popular addition to MMORPGs if for no other reason than that they give players something extra to do when they get tired of beating up monsters or saving the world. It shouldn’t be surprising that Sega has announced the addition of a card battler game titled "Line Strike" to Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis.
The new feature has several battle modes: NPC, Ranked, Unranked, and Free Battle. NPC is just what it sounds like, while the other three all have players competing against each other. Ranked matches players of similar skill levels and results impact player ratings. Unranked has no impact on rating. Finally, Free Battle allows players to play against anyone, no matter their skill level.
Line Strike also includes the ability to review battles with video replays, as well as customize the battle screen. The latter is done using card sleeves and play mats. Finally, the Line Strike Playing Board is available as a new Build Part. It has a built-in function that automatically launches a Free Battle when two players sit down at it. Players can let others know they want a match by simply sitting in one of the chairs and waiting for someone to join. These boards will also be customizable using the Creative Space.
I've included a little preview video the team posted on X a few days ago so you can get a look at the game in action.
It's time to duel! 💫
