MMOBOMB
Dec 23, 2023
Here’s the latest on PlanetSide 2.
In the December 2023 development update for the MMOFPS, Daybreak Games outlines their plans for 2024 — emphasizing a shift towards long-term positive progress rather than short-term changes. The focus will be on addressing core design elements that have been neglected, aiming for impactful changes that take longer to implement, but have lasting effects.
An example of this approach is a significant rework of the Sunderer, a versatile vehicle in the game. The Sunderer rework aims to address issues such as its vulnerability to infantry and a lack of meaningful loadout choices. This update involves renaming slots, redistributing defense and utility, and introducing new certifications.
Notable changes include a deployment slot with active certs while deployed, a dedicated armor slot offering diverse defensive choices, and a new cargo slot offloading support abilities to secondary game objects. The goal, according to the developers, is to provide players with meaningful loadout choices, increase overall survivability, enhance tactical versatility, and maintain the Sunderer's primary role as a spawn point.
Beyond the Sunderer rework, the team teases upcoming changes: class reworks, new non-combat system, Outfit Wars improvements, new facility type/game mode, alert and mission enhancements, and new vehicle. Daybreak Games is also considering community concerns, such as server merges and changes to Oshur, and is actively discussing improvements to the game's anti-cheat measures.
If interested, players can participate in a public playtest event for the new Capture the Conduit changes.
