MMOBOMB
Apr 19, 2024
I get it, online games need to make money in order to survive, but it sure does feel like SMITE 2 is going to monetize every little thing it can. The original SMITE already has battle passes on top of other monetization methods, but the MOBA's sequel is adding battle passes on top of battle passes.
You see, Ascension Passes are like mini battle passes for each god. There's a free track, and a premium track which will cost you cash. These passes are tied to the progression of each god and level up as you level up the god. Each god has their own pass that is tracked individually, and playing as that god earns Worshippers, which levels up the god and the Ascension Pass. Every few levels, you get a reward from the free track, or from both the free and premium track if you've purchased it.
Free mastery rewards include 1 skin, a clap emote, a wave emote, a god kill tracker and god assist tracker (these are new to SMITE), a god level 10 mastery badge, Mastery emblem, and Mastery emblem stars for level 11+.
When you purchase the Ascension Pass for a god, you'll immediately receive a permanent worshiper boost for that god, 1 skin, an advanced tracker, and a god mastery emote. As you progress the premium track you'll receive 2 more skins, 1 more advanced tracker (whatever those are), 1 global emote, 1 title, and additional loading screen cosmetics.
The first 11 gods to receive Ascension Passes will be Zeus, Anubis, Bellona, Chaac, Ymir, Bacchus, Neith, Anhur, Loki, Cernunnos, and Hecate. There's no word at the moment on how much it will cost to unlock an Ascension Pass, but the first 11 come with the Deluxe Founder's Edition, while the next 12 also come with the Ultimate Founder's Pack.
