It’s that time again. Once more Cloud Imperium Games is opening Star Citizen up for gamers to check out for free. The first Free Fly event of 2024 kicked off today, offering those who’ve not tried the game a chance to experience it and five different ships ranging from the Origin 400i touring ship to MISC’s solo mining vessel, the Prospector. Even those who checked out the game before have something new to experience with the expanded in-game PvP content and new open-world settlements – among other things.
In addition to the Free Fly event, CIG also announced two in-game celebrations: Coramor and the Red Festival. These are the game’s version of Valentine's Day and the Lunar New Year. The first features a tragic tale of lovers lost in space and has players exchanging gifts, visiting romantic places, and sending the space version of love letters. There’s also a ‘Duo Showdown’ mode in the Arena Commander module. You know what they say, the couple that slays together stays together – at least until they slay each other. The Coramor event started today and runs through February 15.
As for The Red Festival, it’s also underway as of today. This event celebrates the Lunar New Year of 2945. Unlike current-day Earth and most other online games, Star Citizen is celebrating the Year of the Dog. In keeping with tradition, red envelopes are scattered through the Stanton system, and players will just have to find them if they’d like to sell them to vendors for aUEC currency. The event also includes a new Arena Commander mode: Kill Collector. This is an FPS deathmatch mode that will have players looting red envelopes from defeated enemies to earn their team points.
