We’re sure a lot of Guild Wars 2 players are curious about what’s going on with the whole "making spears usable on land" thing. You’re probably wondering what kinds of new skills they’ll bring to your character and what they’ll bring to the MMORPG in general.

The good news is that the development team has some of those answers for you.

For instance, since every profession gets to use the spear on land, there will be differences in how it’s used. Some will throw it while others use it as a melee weapon. Still, others will use it as kind of a magical staff.

Also of note is that players don’t have to go out and get a land-specific spear. The one you use in water will work just fine.

It’s also worth mentioning that engineers and elementalists will have access to spears on land. However, they’ll still have to go without them in water. Yes, you do need to own Janthir Wilds to use land spears.
