MMOBOMB
Aug 13, 2024
In almost any MMORPG with some sort of glamour or transmog system, one of the most frustrating things a player can run across is finding a really cool piece of gear that’s class-locked. It’s annoying because that really cool set of boots on one class would be amazing with that chest piece from another. For World of Warcraft players who aren’t playing a game where you can’t collect classes like gacha waifus, this is probably even more frustrating since they can’t even have those cool boots with another outfit.
But, things are about to change with The War Within – although, not at initial launch. According to PC Gamer’s Harvey Randall, who’s been spending time in The War Within beta test, quests now award appearances for every item it “could” give players. Keep in mind that when completing quests, players will be asked to choose what gear reward they want. They’ll still get that actual item, of course, but at the same time, it will grant all the appearances from non-cosmetic item rewards. It won’t matter what class players are on.
While there was some confusion about this due to a thread on the World of Warcraft forums, it’s since been cleared up with a response from community manager Kaivax. The clarification confirms the upcoming feature but also adds that the plan is to implement it in the patch after The War Within’s launch. Kaivax also noted that while it’s still in the works, the devs intend for class-specific gear to work with this.
Go forth and be fabulous.
