The saga of Ironmace's Dark and Darker has certainly been an interesting ride so far. The long tale of being removed from Steam, sued by Nexon, and a new scheduled launch on the rival Epic Games platform has certainly provided some fun drama if nothing else.
Now we have an interesting bit of news on the PvPvE, dungeon delving game.
If you want to jump in and go loot gathering with some friends, you can now do so for free...but there's a few catches.
First, the "F2P' version is more of a trial, but a fairly expansive one. You can try out all of the game's "Normal" difficulty content for free. This means you can run all normal maps, do all the quests, and gather some sweet loot, but only on normal difficulty. It's a great way to get the flavor of the title, but those that really want to dive in are likely going to want to buy into the "Legendary" edition of the game when the new season kicks off.
Second, you can't get this free version on the Epic Games Store. To play it, you'll have to head to the official site and download yet another launcher.
The F2P update also tacks on a few changes ahead of the next season including an HP boost to all classes, attribute changes, and changes to "Junk" loot.
That's quite a few hoops to jump through to take Dark and Darker for a test drive, but if you want to avoid paying cash to check it out, at least there's a way to do so!
