DayZ got an “experimental” patch via Update 1.24, bringing experimental branches new features and addressing various issues.
This update includes a clean sweep, with the development team at Bohemia Interactive tackling lingering problems from their backlog. One major focus of the update is the optimization and improvement of gameplay mechanics. Collision geometries of vegetation, especially trees and bushes, have undergone a substantial polishing pass to address issues causing odd collisions with vehicles. Firearms and gunplay have seen enhancements as well, with optimized firearm particles for smoother gameplay and a slight increase in recoil for certain automatic firearms.
The survival game's update also brings improvements to weapon lifting behavior and the calculation of weapon lengths, aiming to make close-quarter combat with firearms less frustrating.
While more complex changes to the infected AI had to be postponed, the developers said they made significant adjustments. Bullet impact noise has been reduced, making it less likely for infected to be drawn to fired bullets, which is especially useful when suppressed firearms are used. Additionally, the damage output of blunt melee weapons and tools against infected and animal AI has been increased.
Finally, there’s been an improvement in regards to bandaging, allowing continuous bandaging without interruptions if the character has multiple bleed sources and enough bandage uses in the stack.
