It's funny that the "best" news for Marvel Rivals fans isn't actually what's coming in Season 2 next week when the F2P shooter's season starts on April 11th. Don't get me wrong, I know people are pretty excited to see Emma Frost and Ultron come to the game in season 2 and season 2.5 respectively. The Hellfire Gala Season 2 showcase video and trailer, both below, give a bit of insight into Emma's role as a Vanguard, other heroes in fancy clothing, and an Ultron that doesn't seem too happy. Season 2 will still be 3 months long. There's a reason I mention that, as you'll soon see.
Team-Ups are also getting a balance pass, with a few being removed and some new ones being added. Popular costumes will get new costume color options and costume gifting will become possible. Finally, overall performance has been improved, but this upgrade comes with the client no longer being able to play replays from Season 0 or 1. You'll want to save your videos locally before Season 2 starts.
That's all very good news.
What may be better, if NetEase can actually stick to their plan, is the way the team wants to keep players "as excited as they were in December" when the game released. The best way to do that? Sure, new modes are nice and the team is testing a few. Those will come as special events in the future. But the REAL way to do it? You guessed it: new heroes, more often. To that end, Creative Director Guangyun Chen has announced that when Season 3 rolls around, the seasons will shift to a two month format, with a new hero coming in each month.
The team has previously spoken about slowing down on hero releases post-launch, but it seems pressure is mounting on the team from fans (and probably NetEase) to keep the hype going. A new hero every month will expand an already growing roster pretty quickly. The season pass will be altered so all rewards can still be gained, and new weekly missions will be added.
It's certainly ambitious and maybe even a bit concerning to the game's competition, but we'll have to see how long that aggressive a delivery schedule can be kept up.
