With two smash hit games and an HBO series to boot, you would think the future of Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us would be rock solid. However, that may not be the case as layoffs take center stage.
What this means for the already indefinitely delayed multiplayer spin-off is still up in the air, but it doesn't look good as Naughty Dog is laying off many contract workers.
I would question whether or not a critically acclaimed game like The Last Of Us really needs a live service multiplayer game. The live service model has not worked out for many games, and a studio that produces such quality content as The Last Of Us may actually be better off steering clear of live service games. Why dirty the name of a series beloved by players with a microtransaction-heavy game? It seems quite unnecessary.
Either way, layoffs can't be good news for The Last Of Us multiplayer game which has already been delayed after being talked about during the launch of the second game. If you've been looking forward to The Last Us multiplayer, I wouldn't be holding my breath for a release at this point.
