And just like that, there's multiple Overwatch 2 things to report on. Blizzard pulled back the curtain on the upcoming Season 13 of the hero shooter and, fittingly for a season numbered "13" and for this time of year, there's quite a bit of "spooky" coming in the "Spellbinder" season.
The Mythic Spellbinder Widowmaker skin in the new season is pretty awesome looking and gets new animations and visual effects as you level up, with level 4 causing her hat to ignite into a cap of flame.
A variation of Team Deathmatch gets transformed into Junkenstein's Laboratory starting on October 15th, too. In this PvP mode, heroes can be mutated into horrors. Cursed talent cards add to the chaos by altering your hero's abilities. If you're more of a co-op kind of player, Junkenstein’s Revenge and Wrath of the Bride events return with new challenges, bosses, and rewards.
Season 13 also features a new season pass with new rewards and the launch of the previously teased My Hero Academia collaboration.
In other, maybe more interesting, Overwatch 2 news, there's a few interesting tidbits floating out there in the ether. First, mainly coming from Jason Schreier's new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, And Future of Blizzard Entertainment, is a possible mobile Overwatch project. Now this is one of those things that either IS or at least WAS in development over at Blizzard. With no confirmation of such a beast from Blizzard, we only have Schreier's reporting to go on here as of this moment. GM of Overwatch 2, Walter Kong, is reportedly tasked with leading this project.
The second piece of fun information actually COULD be the same as the first, or something totally separate. We're not quite sure, yet. Over on the Overwatch 2 jobs page, Blizzard is searching for someone to work via a 6 month contract to market a "major feature" for Overwatch 2. Again, this COULD be a position to market some type of mobile version of the game or it could be some new feature coming to the game itself. We'll have to wait on this one a bit, but speculation is fun, right?
I've posted an image of the relevant portion of the job posting in case it should disappear from the link above.
