MMOBOMB
Oct 11, 2024
Is there any more of a boss move than to go and build a game and name it after your World of Warcraft guild from back in the day? Seriously, that's kind of a baller move and that's exactly what Notorious Studios has done.
I first reported on Legacy: Steel & Sorcery back in June. At that time, the team, made up of some of the team that worked on World of Warcraft years ago, had just dropped the first trailer for their upcoming PvPvE RPG game. Legacy aims to combine action combat, multiplayer skirmishes, and progression to a different type of game. Think games like HAWKED, just with swords and spells instead of bullets.
“Our goal was to build upon the foundations of RPG and MMO PvP into its own title, something we haven't quite seen before. We incorporated many of the lessons and learnings from building one of the biggest MMOs of all time (World of Warcraft) into Legacy. Based on feedback we've had from players already, I think we have something special here and we can't wait to share it with more and more players,” said Chris Kaleiki, Founder and CEO of Notorious Studios.
Legacy held a playtest since then and they have another alpha test planned for October 11th, but that's limited to those lucky few with access. However, if you're curious, the team will be opening up Legacy to the public during Steam Next Fest next week. From October 14th through the 21st, the game will feature a free alpha demo.
Both the alpha and the demo will not have an NDA, so you can probably find some streamers checking out the title soon.
I'll be interested in checking out the demo myself. The initial reveal looked somewhat interesting, but I had concerns with combat not really feeling all that impactful in the released video (posted again below). That said, it is alpha and things will certainly change, and I hope they do. I enjoy the whole fantasy vibe for a PvPvE game, and I like Dark and Darker, so Legacy seems like something right up my alley.
