MMOBOMB
Jul 17, 2024
As Throne and Liberty preps for beta (which you can download now ahead of time) and continues the march towards launch on September 17th, the team has been dropping information on guilds, group play, and character creation.
The one thing conspicuously missing so far has been monetization plans for the MMORPG. Until now. Similar to the way there are differences in Lost Ark's payment model for customers in Amazon Games serviced regions, Throne and Liberty will undergo a few additional shifts for audiences in the west.
At a top level, there will be three currencies in the game. Lucent is the cash shop currency (although it can be acquired via other means like certain PvP content and the Auction House for certain items). Sollent is acquired in-game and used to purchase things from NPCs and is important in crafting or upgrading gear. Finally, Ornamental Coins. This last one is a currency coming from Twitch Drops, the battle pass, and special in-game activities. They can be used in a special shop offering cosmetics and progression items.
It should be noted that there is no difference between purchased Lucent and Lucent earned via the MMO's Auction House. Lucent is Lucent no matter how you got it. It can be used in all places Lucent can be used, regardless of how you obtained it.
In theory, this allows free players to get their hands on the cash shop currency by selling items on the Auction House. However, things like cosmetics in the Lucent shop are not able to be sold on the Auction House. Remember, though, the Auction House has two taxes on it; a flat AH tax and a tax that goes to the castle's controlling guild (who sets the tax rate).
On the battle pass front...there's freakin' two of them. Both have a free track and a paid track. The first is a "Leveling Pass" that can be purchased once per character. There's nothing here to increase "power", but it will let you level faster with its rewards. The second pass is the more traditional "Battle Pass." This is the typical "season" pass with seasons lasting about a month. It should be noted, though, that these are ALSO bought per CHARACTER, not ACCOUNT.
For Amazon players, the cost of each of these passes will be a little cheaper than other regions and they'll be purchasable with Lucent so F2P players could get the passes with Lucent earned via the Auction House.
Amazon players will also not be able to get the "Blessing of Solisium", a purchasable buff/benefit package that was seen in other regions' testing.
There's a full post with some additional details and we do get a little bit of Founder's Pack information, but the real reveal of the packs themselves will happen in two days. I'll keep you posted, of course.
