PCGAMESN - Ed Smith
Feb 15, 2025
Command and Conquer, whether it means to be or otherwise, is a frightening satire of modern warfare. Soldiers are treated like objects - mass produced in factories (“unit ready”), they’re sent to die in great, anonymous waves. Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn are meat grinders, but they’re also at a remove, offering macroscopic, top-down POVs on battle. To get in close, you need a smaller-scale RTS like Company of Heroes or maybe XCOM. Or, if you were anywhere near a PC and a browser back in 2008, Warfare 1917 and Warfare 1944. It’s been almost two decades, but the brutal Flash classics are about to return courtesy of a complete remaster.
