Next week at The Game Awards, Digital Extremes has a big announcement planned for Warframe fans regarding the upcoming Warframe: 1999 update. Examining the past in the world of Warframe could be a compelling concept. Checking out the Protoframe forebearers of the frames we know today and seeing how things come together is interesting.
My personal guess is still that DE will announce the 1999 launch at the awards. No, not a release date, the actual launch. Kind of like they did back in 2019 when Rebecca Ford took to the show's stage to announce that the Empyrean update was live as of that moment. That's just my guess though, I have no inside knowledge on their plans.
Anyway, as we wait for the show, the shooter's collaboration with THE LINE is now live.
THE LINE's animated short sets the stage for Warframe: 1999 as a sort of prologue and, damn, does it make the case for a full-blown Warframe animated series. In just a few minutes of action, I think even casual Warframe fans like myself would be on board for a show. Volt FTW, btw.
“We’ve been a huge fan of THE LINE’s work for years and knew they would absolutely be the perfect partner,” said Rebecca Ford, Creative Director of Warframe. “Warframe: 1999 is one of the most ambitious things our studio has tried in almost 12 years of the game’s evolution. We’re always looking for ways to authentically share our atmosphere and aesthetic with players out of game as well as in-game. This evocative short marks the last gift we have to give before the next narrative chapter of Warframe launches later this month!”
