If you were hoping that there might eventually be good tidings on Firewalk Studios’ shooter game Concord, we have bad – although not unexpected – news for you. As you may recall, the game was taken offline a while back following a problematic launch. At the time, Firewalk stated plans to rethink the game. However, two weeks after the game was taken offline, the game director stepped down and reports were coming out that the studio’s future was in question, with concerns ranging from layoffs to the studio being shuttered altogether.
Sadly, as it turns out, the latter option was the correct one. Today, Sony published a post announcing the closure of two of its studios, Neon Koi and Firewalk. The post cites strategic reasons, a desire to focus on “titles that are in line with PlayStation Studios’ pedigree”, as well as growing mobile gaming.
When announcing Firewalk’s closure, the post notes that “certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but that others did not land with players” and that the company “spent considerable time these past few months” exploring options. The end result of that exploration is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio.
Firewalk Studios shared a tweet about the closure today, highlighting the virtues of the staff at the studio.
Firewalk is signing off one last time.
