Funcom Drops Video Showing Off Dune: Awakening's Base-Building Mechanics

In a new tweet, Funcom detailed the base-building mechanics of the upcoming survival MMO. Players can initially claim a plot of land in the open world of the vast deserts of Arrakis, advancing to unlock more sophisticated upgrades as they progress. The game emphasizes the challenge of desert living with constant threats from deadly sandstorms and giant sandworms.

To survive these dangers, they must employ various defenses, including shields, to protect their homes on the perilous planet. Thousands of players will share a server, in collaboration or competition. Dune: Awakening, which takes place in the universe of Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel series, also promises diverse interior decoration options.

Although no release date has been announced, the developers conducted the first closed beta test in December 2023, with additional tests planned for early 2024.
