MMOBOMB
Apr 27, 2024
Today is not a great day for fans of Kakao Games’ ArcheAge as they announced the impending closure of the MMORPG. According to the announcement, Kakao and XL Games have been discussing the state of the game – specifically the game’s decreasing population. The drop in player numbers has had enough of a negative impact on the game that the developers realize it’s no longer playable in the way intended. As a result, they will be shuttering the game in both Europe and North America at the end of June.
Specifically, the game will close at 8:00 UTC on June 27. Preparations for that closure have already begun, with Kakao disabling the purchase of Credits. Players have until the game’s closure to use whatever Credits they do have and those with Patron time or a Tactful Life buff still in action are receiving Credits in exchange.
For every day of Patron status, they will receive 50 Credits. For every day of Tactful Life, they’ll receive 41 credits. As this is what they consider an “exceptional circumstance”, Kakao has also offered to refund purchases made within the fourteen days prior to today’s announcement.
On an additional note, if you were considering hopping over to another region to keep playing, publishers in other regions have implemented IP blocks specific to their licensing agreements.
Now you'll just have to wait on ArcheAge 2, which isn't coming any time this year.
