MMOBOMB
Jun 06, 2024
Sometime before the end of 2024, Notorious Studios will drop Legacy: Steel & Sorcery into early access on Steam. The PvPvE title features a third-person view with session-based gameplay. While the game will include a number of "MMO-like" elements like character customization, classes, and open world maps, it isn't something I would really call an MMO, and neither does the team behind the project.
Instead, you'll hop into session-based gameplay solo or in groups of up to 3 players. Each session will support 24 players and you'll be tasked with gathering items for crafting and taking out not just other players (full loot PvP is enabled), but also PvE objectives in each session.
Grab your goodies and make it back to town. If you remember games like The Cycle or you play games like HAWKED, you'll have a good idea of the gameplay here. Teleport to a session, get your loot, make it out, and use all your gains to advance your character and gear via persistent progressions system.
The reveal trailer below does show off some great looking environments, but I think it falls a bit short on the combat side, so I'm hoping that's an early focus during early access. It's not "bad", but it really lacks impact. Characters seem to have no reaction to huge axes being driven right into their torso. You get a splash of a light effect and a number pops up, but that's really it.
I enjoy this type of gameplay loop and I love seeing it in a more melee/fantasy style, but the combat has to be tight and fun in these types of games or they don't stand a chance.
We'll be keeping an eye on this one and you can too via Steam (available for wishlisting now) and the game's official site.
