Sometimes a game, no matter how fun, just doesn't catch on. When Odyssey Interactive first introduced their sports game Omega Strikers, we were very interested in the "Rocket League meets League of Legends" idea.
Apparently many were but, despite the best efforts of the team, the game just hasn't caught on the way they would have hoped. Speaking to the game's players via a short video announcement, Ody Lunchboy and Ody Maple announced the sad reality of game design sometimes.
Adding console support, getting some love from popular streamers, and even producing some exceptional advertising, Omega Strikers just never really had the audience it needed for support. Rather than continue trying to iterate and find the "one missing piece", Odyssey Interactive has decided to put the game into maintenance mode. While there may be a few balance patches still, the game will no longer be receiving new updates, new skins, or any substantive new content.
There's no short-term plan to take servers offline, so you'll still be able to play and if you like what you see you can still purchase items from the existing lineup of cosmetics.
Why spend money on a game no longer getting updates?
Well, in a very customer-centric move, Odyssey Interactive will grant players that spend money in Omega Strikers cash shop currency in their next title, the one they are pivoting to develop. While details on the new title are very scarce, the team is accepting signups for upcoming testing. No dates for testing have been announced yet.
Pretty classy move.
