MMOBOMB
Jun 27, 2024
In a day and a half, Warriors of Light will be boarding a boat and heading to an all-new continent. Probably to find trouble, because that’s what we do. Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail launches early Friday morning, taking us to Tural. What kinds of things are there to do in this place we’ve never visited before?
Of course, there are fights to be had, treasure to be found, and mysteries to solve. We find that wherever we go. It is an MMORPG after all, but it seems that the XIV team wants players to really get into the spirit of a true vacation. They’ve even set up a travel site for Tural. Hosted by Tural’s “Board of Turalism”, the site provides all kinds of information and suggests plenty of activities – like acupuncture with cactaurs (Doesn’t seem particularly safe…).
To really flesh out the site, actor Rhys Darby (Jumanji, Our Flag Means Death, Relax, I’m From The Future) is playing host as Interim Deputy Director of the Board of Turalism. He has his own blog offering information on his position, complete with job listings that include “Elixer Mixer” and “Viper Blade Sharpener”. There’s even an introductory video.
Honestly, the site is worth giving a look. If you don’t care about the cute factor, it does have some real-world recipes.
In the meantime, if you haven’t begun downloading the update, get started on that. While we can’t play until Friday, the bulk of the update is now available to download on all platforms. You’re looking at 50+ gigs, so get on that. Also, keep an eye on your email if you’ve pre-ordered the game but haven’t received your key yet. It’s on its way at some point.
Finally, another small bit of news. If you didn’t pre-order the big Collectors Edition with the statue and all, there’s an opportunity to win one. It’s one of those do all the social media things sweepstakes, so you'll want to be prepared to do a lot of sharing and following.
